Surinder Kapoor was born on 23 December, 1925 in a Punjabi Hindu family hailing from Peshawar. He was a sales executive in his hometown with a local newspaper. Surinder Kapoor married Nirmal Kapoor and was blessed with 3 sons- Sanjay, Anil and Boney; who are some of the most eminent personalities in the film industry. He is also the proud father of Reena who went on to marry the famous Sandeep Marwah. Sridevi, the veteran actress is Surinder Kapoor's daughter-in-law.
With great hardwork and some help from his relatives, Surinder Kapoor tried his luck in Bollywood. In 1950, he got his first break as the secretary of Geeta Bali (famous Hindi film star). In 1963, he featured Geeta Bali and Pradeep Kumar in his first self production -Jab Se Tumhe Dekha. He produced several hit movies. Some of them are Sirf Tum, Pukar, Judaai, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Milenge Milenge, Hum Paanch, Woh Saat Din and many more. In a few years of toils and efforts, he became a famous Indian film producer and even presided over the Film & Television Producer's Guild of India for 6 long years between 1995 and 2001. For his great contributions to the film industry, he was even awarded the L.V. Prasad Phalke Award by the Dada Saheb Phalke Academy on 4rth May, 2009 at Bhaidas Hill.
Surinder Kapoor breathed his last on the evening of September 24, 2011 due to cardiac arrest. Many popular faces from Bollywood were seen paying homage to the veteran producer at their residence. Without his presence we would have missed some great entertaining and informative films on screen.
